GEM
STONES
Wearing
gemstones is without any doubt a concept that dates long back in the
history and perhaps no one knows when and where were the first gemstones
worn and who wore those gemstones. The only thing we do know is that
people have been fascinated by the beauty of gemstones and have worn
them. And many of them have worn them even without knowing the good
or bad effects that the gemstones may bring to them. I guess they were
just charmed by some gemstone and so they wore it. And even to the date
there are many people who wear gemstones only because they are attracted
or fascinated by some particular gemstone or gemstones. While on the
other hand there are many people who wear gemstones to get benefits
from them.
And when it comes to the benefits given by gemstones, there are so many
different concepts regarding which gemstone or gemstones are suitable
for a person. There are a number of beliefs, methods and techniques
in astrology and every astrologer generally prescribes or recommends
a suitable gemstone or the suitable gemstones for his client depending
upon the kind of astrology and belief he is practicing in. And as different
theories or techniques of astrology use different methods to prescribe
the gemstones, it is quite possible that a person may get different
kinds of recommendations from different astrologers depending upon the
method of astrology they follow and also upon the extent of knowledge
they posses irrespective of the method of astrology they follow.
After
you have been prescribed to wear a particular GemStone, then the question
arises; What is the proper way to wear a GemStone. Here is the answer
to this question. Though the proper procedure to wear a Gemstone is
a bit lengthy and I will explain all the steps, but you can skip the
last step which includes Mantras if you are not comfortable with it.
Lets first take a look at the best days for wearing different
Gemstones.
Ruby : Sunday
Pearl : Monday
Yellow Sapphire : Thursday
White Sapphire : Friday
Red Coral : Tuesday
Emerald : Wednesday
Blue Sapphire : Saturday
Hessonite : Saturday
Cats Eye : Saturday
As you get your GemStone fixed in a Ring, the first thing you have to
keep in mind is that the Ring should have an open base so that the gemstone
may touch the skin of your finger. This way you can get best results
from a Gemstone. And once you get the Ring ready, try it first in your
finger so that if it is tight or loose, you may get it fixed before
continuing with the next procedure. The next thing to do is to keep
it immersed in GangaJal or Holy Water or Unboiled Milk for about 12-24
hours in a small bowl. By doing this we get rid of any type of negative
energy which may be present in the Gemstone due to processing, touching
with dirty hands and anything else. This Step is called "ShudhiKaran"
or "Purification" of the Gemstone.
Then
in the next step the Gemstone is worn on the day prescribed and the
time prescribed. A generally good time for wearing Gemstones is the
time just before the Sunrise which is also known as Bramha Muhurata.
Take a bath and then Sit or Stand somewhere clean and place the bowl
in front of you and Chant 108 Mantras for the planet for which
the Gemstone has been prescribed. For example if you have been prescribed
a Ruby or Manik, you would be generally advised to wear it on Sunday
and the Mantra would be OM SOORYAAY NAMAH which should be Chanted
108 times. Same is the case with other Gemstones. By doing this step
we are asking the concerned planet to bless us. This step is called
Praan Pratishtha or Establishment of the Gemstone. After this
you can wear the Gemstone.
Following
are the Gemstones relating to the nine planets or NavaGraha
Ruby
(Manik) : This is the Gemstone
that belongs to the Sun which is considered as ruler of all the planets.
It's colour varies from light pink to mystical deep red colour. If suited
it can render very good results to the native including success in professional
matters, fame, reputation and overall status. Medically it increases
Immunity and Vitality among other benefits. On the other hand it can
create serious physical problems and diseases among other problems if
it is not suited. It is generally worn on the Ring Finger or the Index
Finger and it should be worn on Sunday morning after prayers.
Pearl
(Moti) : This Gemstone belongs to the Moon which is considered
Queen or Mother of all the planets. Pearls are formed in shellfish especially
oysters and mussels. It varies in colour from white to a hint of pink,
blue and even black. If suited it blesses the native with happiness,
luxury, good mental health among other benefits. It is usually worn
on the Ring Finger, the Little finger or the Index Finger and it should
be worn on Monday morning after prayer.
Yellow
Sapphire (PukhRaj) : This Gemstone belongs to Jupiter. It
varies in colour from light yellow to deep yellow. If suited it blesses
the native with wealth, prosperity, good memory among other things.
It is generally worn on the Index finger or the Ring finger and it should
be worn on Thursday morning after prayers.
Diamond
(Heera) : This Gemstone belongs to Venus. It is usually colourless
and if suited it blesses the wearer with luxuries, comforts, charming
personality and happiness among other things.Since Diamond is a very
costly gemstone, White Sapphire is commonly used as a substitute gemstone
for Diamond. It is generally worn on the Middle finger or the Little
finger and it should be worn on Friday mornings after prayers.
Red
Coral (Moonga) : Red Coral belongs to Mars. It is made of
skeletal remains of some marine animals. It varies in colour from red
to vermilion to pink and sometimes even white. If suited it blesses
the native with strength, courage, good friends, good houses among other
things. It is generally worn on the Ring finger or the Index finger and
it should be worn on Tuesday morning after prayers.
Emerald
(Panna) : This gemstone belongs to Mercury. It varies in
colour from light to dark green. If suited it blesses the native with
good communication skills, business, good health and memory among other
things. It is generally worn on the Little finger or the Middle Finger
and it should be worn on Wednesday morning after prayers.
Blue
Sapphire ( Neelam) : The most enticing, the most mysterious,
the most feared, and perhaps the most effective of all the Gemstones
belongs to none other than Saturn. So many bad things have been spread
about this Gemstone that common people do not even dream of wearing
it. But if suited it can turn your whole life much more faster than
any other Gemstone. It varies in colour from light blue to deep blue.
This gemstone can bless you with wealth, health, luxury and so many
other good things. But it can be very destructive if not suited to a
native. It is generally worn on the Middle finger or the Little Finger
and it should be worn on Saturday morning after prayers.
Hessonite
(Gomed) : This gemstone belongs to Rahu (North Node) and
varies in colour from light honey colour to dark honey colour. If suited
it can bring sudden fortunes like winning of lotteries and instant successes
in stock market to the wearer. But it can be a great disaster if not
suited. It can cause ulcers, tumors, cancers, madness among other things.
And in my experience it is not suitable for at least 70 to 80 percent
of people. So be very careful while wearing this Gemstone and monitor
its effects closely for some days and weeks even if it is prescribed
to you by some expert Astrologer, and in case you find some unusual
things like sudden misfortunes, sudden diseases, extreme short temperedness
and insomnia, take it off. It is generally worn on the Middle finger
or the Little finger and it should be worn on the day prescribed by
the astrologer.
Cat's
Eye (Lahsuniya) : This gemstone belongs to Ketu (North Node)
and it can vary in so many colours from green to yellow to brown. It
has a moving white line across the gemstone which gives the effect of
a Cat's Eye. This gemstone if suited usually helps in Career, Business,
Spiritualism, Meditation among other things. But again, like Hessonite,
this gemstone is also not suitable for 70 to 80 percent of people and
can be as disastrous as Hessonite. So be careful wearing it.It is generally
worn on the Middle finger or the Little finger and it should be worn
on the day prescribed by the astrologer.

Maintaining
Gemstones
Many
people are wearing gemstones nowadays and most of them are very much
concerned when it comes to their quality, genuineness and how to wear
them. But only a few people know or care that the gemstones need maintenance
in order to keep on giving their optimum results. Most of the people
usually put gemstones once in their fingers or in a pendent and then
forget about them altogether whereas they should make it a routine to
take care of their gemstones on a regular basis otherwise the gemstones
they are wearing may not be able to perform optimally after a certain
period of time and accordingly the benefits associated with the gemstones
may start reducing in numbers and quantum with the passage of time.
So lets look at a few things that we can do to get the most out
of our gemstones for a longer period of time and lets also know
how to increase the lifespan of certain gemstones by keep certain things
in mind.
Let
me first start with the fact that gemstones are basically of two types
when it comes to durability or their lifespan. Ruby, Sapphires, Emerald,
Hessonite and Cats Eye fall under the first category which have
a very long lifespan whereas Pearl and Red Coral fall under the second
category which have shorter lifespan and so they need to be replaced
after some years depending upon their quality. Starting with the first
group which is a transparent group also, as we wear these gemstones
and start using them, layers of greasy material start depositing on
their surfaces due to combined action of some oils, lubricants, greasy
materials, dust and some other things that we every now and then come
in contact with.
And
whereas most of us are very much aware of the formation of such deposits
when it comes to the upper surface of the gemstones we wear, only a
few of us ever bother to look at the lower surface of the gemstones
and see what is happening there. The lower surface is the surface of
the gemstones which touches your finger and is usually hidden from any
eye contact. So the greasy deposit or layers of impurities start forming
on this surface and we do not notice them as they are not visible to
us most of the times unlike the deposits formed on the upper surface
which we notice very soon and take care of them. Such deposits of impurities
start getting thicker and thicker with the passage of time and a time
comes when they start blocking the path of Ultraviolet rays that a gemstone
receives from its corresponding planet. The rays are unable to pass
through these impurities and hence they do not enter our body which
is the sole purpose of wearing gemstones.
And
as these deposits become thicker and thicker, a point comes when a major
percentage of the gemstones is blocked by these impurities and they
virtually stop working anymore. So we need to take care of the gemstones
we wear on a regular basis in order to make sure that no deposits form
on the outer as well as inner surfaces of these gemstones. A simple
test for seeing this would be to remove the ring and then hold it in
front of your eyes when there is bright light in the background. This
way youll be able to see even the slightest of the deposits that
may form on the surfaces of the gemstones. And if you detect any such
deposits, the next thing to do is to get rid of them.
The
easiest and the most effective way to do that is to take a clean toothbrush
and clean the surfaces of the gemstones by rubbing them with the brush
while putting the gemstone under running water at the same time. In
a matter of seconds, youll see that the deposits are gone and
the gemstones are back to their original self again. However if sometimes
the deposits are sticky and dont go away by simple action of brush
and water, you can use some liquid soap or liquid detergent in small
quantity to get rid of these deposits and get the gemstones back to
their original shine and transparency. Repeating this process once a
month is generally sufficient in most of the cases unless you are into
something which involves dealing with greasy materials more than usual
in which case you may need to repeat the above mentioned process every
couple of weeks to make sure that your gemstones are in good condition
to perform.
Moving
on to the next group of gemstones also known as the Opaque group, the
kind of care you need to take in their case is very much different from
the first group of gemstones. Pearl and Red Coral are not hard gemstones
and they erode away with the action of Water, Detergents, Sweat and
certain other things. So the first thing you need to do is to keep them
away from water and especially detergents as the action of detergents
can decrease the lifespan of these gemstones considerably. So if youre
wearing any of these two gemstones, make sure that you remove them before
you wash your hands or do something that involves the action of fluids
and detergents. Formation of greasy deposits is not a big issue in this
case as the outermost surfaces of these gemstones constantly and continuously
keep on vanishing and so the deposits also go away with them. But if
you still find some considerable deposit on these gemstones, the best
way to remove them would be by using a wet piece of cloth or a wet brush
and if the deposits are greasy then use as little detergent or soap
as you can and get rid of the deposits. But not much is actually required
to do in case of these gemstones as they keep on eroding and new and
fresh skin continuously keeps on appearing. So what you need to do in
case of these gemstones is to keep them away from the action of excessive
fluids and detergents. Doing this would prolong their lifespan and you
would need to replace them less often.
These
are a few simple but very effective methods that you should use for
proper maintenance of the gemstones that you are wearing. Doing the
things mentioned above would ensure that your gemstones keep on working
to their optimum and have the longest possible lifespan.
